Russia – A Friendship Beyond Borders
Russia and India share a long-standing relationship built on mutual respect, cultural exchange, and strong people-to-people connections. This friendly relationship is one reason many Indian students feel comfortable choosing Russia for higher education.
Studying in Russia gives Indian students the opportunity to experience a new culture while remaining connected to familiar values and traditions. For an Indian student, it can be more than an academic journey — it can be an opportunity to build international friendships and grow personally and professionally.
Russian
The official language of Russia is Russian. Many universities offer programs for international students, including English-medium courses. For students pursuing medicine, English-medium programs can make the academic transition easier. Learning basic Russian is also recommended for everyday activities such as shopping, transportation, and hospital interaction.
Russian Ruble (RUB)
The official currency of Russia is the Russian Ruble (RUB). Indian students should consider currency exchange rates when preparing their education budget. Expenses such as accommodation, food, transportation, insurance, and personal requirements can vary by university and city.
A Growing Community
Russia has a significant Indian student community, particularly in the medical education sector. Approximately 25,000 Indian students are associated with education in Russia each year, making it easier for new students to find Indian peers and communities.
Having Indian students around can provide additional support during the initial transition, especially when adapting to a new country, climate, food, language, and academic environment.
Numerous Opportunities
Russia has numerous higher education institutions offering programs in medicine, engineering, technology, business, science, and other disciplines.
For students specifically interested in medicine, there are around 60 government medical universities/institutions considered among the options for international medical education. Students should always check the latest recognition, accreditation, admission requirements, and applicable regulations before selecting a university.
